Spokane Pride Theme Wear

Contestants will have 30 seconds to model fun casual wear outfits or costumes showing off their pride of the Spokane region.

Upbeat modeling music will be played for Theme Wear competition. Props are allowed as long as they can easily be carried on and off stage during the routine.

Wardrobe

Spokane Pride Theme Wear competition outfit is entirely up to you. It could have something to do with a local sports team, a favorite activity on Spokane River or Mt. Spokane, a historical costume, or even just an outfit done all in lilac.

Theme Wear Ideas for Spokane Pride Modeling.

What is something you enjoy doing in Spokane? What’s a part of Spokane’s History that you like? What makes you proud to be from Spokane? Use your imagination and have fun!

Team Pride: wear an outfit with your school’s team mascot or a sports outfit from a local sports team like the Spokane Indians or Gonzaga Bulldogs.
Outdoor Activities: What sorts of outdoor hobbies do you enjoy? Do you like to snow ski or ice skate? How about fishing? Hiking? Canoeing? Archery? What kind of outfit do you wear that is unique to those activities? Show your love of your outdoor hobby by showing us what you wear!
Lilac Festivities: Do you enjoy participating in the Lilac Festival? Do you have an outfit that reminds you of the beautiful flowers that bloom every year? Or do you enjoy dressing all in purple?
Local Club: Do you belong to a scouting group or dance troop or other group that wears matching outfits? Do you participate in local D&D or Comic Book Conventions? How about a cultural heritage group or choir? Want to share your pride in your special group? Feel free to wear your special outfit!
Costumes: How about dressing up as someone famous from Spokane? Or perhaps you’d like to wear your baby bear pajamas? Or maybe dress up as a beautiful Swallowtail Butterfly!

Walking Format

There are really only two basic walking formats for required events at the pageant and even those are very similar. Theme Wear does not have a pre-set walking pattern, but you are welcome to create your own routine, make it up as you go during competition, or use the same layout set-up as for Formal Wear.

Example Theme Wear Routine. This is just an idea you can use. It is not the required format. Feel free to make up your own or improvise on pageant day.

Empty Stage. Feel free to use this to help you plan out your own routine if you like. Theme Wear routines should be around 30 seconds.

Theme Wear Modeling Tips

Posture: Think tall. While walking, stand up straight and keep your shoulders back. This will give you a more confident look.
Attitude: Have fun! Pageant theme wear modeling is not the same as catwalk modeling in a fashion show. Feel free to smile and engage the judges and audience.
Rhythm: Let the upbeat music motivate you. Try walking in time to the music as much as you can and you will find a comfortable rhythm to your walk.
Posing: Pause occassionally to let the judges get a better look at your outfit. Think about interesting ways to stand that will show off your outfit and your confidence. This is a fun part of modeling that you can practice at home in front of a mirror.
Body Movement: Some people think you need to do a lot of hip swaying or arm swinging to be a model. Don't worry about it. Your hips and arms will move naturally so exaggeration isn’t necessary.
Accessories or Props: Plan ahead how you will use any accessories or props on stage. Typically, just having the item is enough; you typically do not need to point at it or hold it up.
Eye Contact: A popular phrase in pageantry is, "There are no judges on the ground!" Always look up at the judges or audience or pick a spot on the wall at the back of the room if eye contact is difficult for you.
